Stan is your everyday sixth grader. He goes to school, plays sports, dislikes math, is terrified of girls, and has one pretty cool iPhone. However, there are two challenges he faces that make his life difficult, to say the least. First, he's a little Tyrannosaurus Rex trying to make a name for himself in a world populated by humans. Second, his life is being ruined by a fellow sixth grader named Benny who seems to have it out for him. Will Stan make it through sixth grade or will Benny continue to ruin his life? Read about his adventures in Diary of a Dinosaur The Attack of Benny. "This is a great book that both kids and parents will enjoy." -PREHISTORIC CHANNEL

Diary of a Dinosaur The Attack of Benny Mike Esola Books

I have 2 children and both have always loved stories about dinosaurs, ever since they were young. They are a bit older now but not enough to completely get away from them. The fact that the main character and his nemesis are fairly close to their age makes this a real grabber. They love the interaction and can relate it to their lives. They both, hopefully, wait for more and that it can become a series. Well thought out book, sounds like the author has been there and done that.

Diary of a Dinosaur The Attack of Benny Mike Esola Books Reviews

I brought this book home for the kids and not only they loved it, I really loved the story as well. It entertained me as well as the youngsters. Great experience.
This book is a total boredom. I really made a strong effort to end reading it. The author wrote that it's an hilarious story. Well, it's a story very silly, written by a man that doesn't know how to write a decent novel for kids.
I got to read the book "Diary of a dinosaur" by Mike Esola, this is one of the coolest books i've read so far in my short 9 years. this book is great because it's non-stop fun and the character Stan is funny, i wish he was my friend. i can't wait for the next book Mike writes, i will read them all
My eight and nine year old children just finished reading this book with me. There is a quite a bit of good information to be gleaned from this book. It deals with a very important problem that children are experiencing in this world of ours today. The author made it a fun and easy book to read for younger children. He got his message across by creating a dinosaur, which all children love and made him very fun and believable. Parents cannot start teaching their children too early that bullying will not be tolerated and this was a good example of how to get the message across.

In reading the reviews I was especially surprised by the one negative review. Sure this wasn't a literary novel - it wasn't supposed to be. And it is not geared towards older children because they already have their own ideas and opinions. But it was meant to teach, and by showing how bullying can affect children, it accomplished its goal. So I believe the negative review missed the point. The reason I gave it only 4 stars was because my children did not want it to end. They wanted more. Hopefully the sequel will be longer and more lessons will be learned.
A while back, I read a book called The First Five Pages A Writer's Guide To Staying Out of the Rejection Pile (Noah Lukeman). He said most readers will make up their mind about a book after the first five pages and 99.9% will not change their mind. This makes the first five pages rather important. For a reviewer this could not be more true. Within the first five pages, I like to have met the protagonist, his antagonist, and learn the plot of the story. Waiting until the fourteenth chapter is much too long a wait. Not reading about the protagonist again until nine chapters later is confounding. This is exactly what happens in Diary of a Dinosaur.

Wanting to be fair, I read all 50 chapters in this 142-page book. A couple of quick irritants each chapter began approximately two pages after the last, regardless of where the story was at the end of those two pages; the use of texting terms outside of a text message, biggest offenders being "LOL" and the smiley face -) I am not sure why the author chose to start a new chapter in the middle of a scene. It defies logic. Especially when the last sentence in the chapter is "Keep on reading;" "The answer is in the next chapter;" or "You know the deal by now, keep on reading." Stan walking home with a friend took up six complete "chapters" without anything significant towards the plot occurring. Not knowing why, I kept on reading and was never so thankful to see a back cover. There is no dialogue in this book. None, Zip, nada, Nothing. Talk about an example of telling rather than showing. Everything is tell, which becomes boring fast, as does the narrator talking to the reader as if they were buddies. Spend more time developing story not goofy and annoying tangents. Please use the standards of writing. Take a course, read a book on writing for kids.

Will kids like this book? I would hope not, but with all the low level work passing itself as good literature and adults justifying its existence by buying the ninety-nine cent schlock, it would not be surprising to see kids reading the same terribly written, unedited, and unrevised mess. For many picture books, illustrations save the story. Other books must stand on the text alone, as a story should be able to do, with or without illustrations.

I do not know what Diary of a Dinosaur is supposed to be. It reads as if an April fool's joke played on the literary community. To be fair, I think you should decide for yourself. You can read the first five chapters here at on the book's page. It is a fast read. Then please return and let me know what you think. I have never felt this strongly about a book and do want to be fair. A review is simply an opinion of the reviewer, so I'd love to get more opinions, whatever they may be.
This is a fun and cute read, perfect for kids and parents! The main character Stan deals with the every day challenges of being a middle-schooler - navigating through school, girls, and bullies - but with the added element of being a dinosaur as well. I look forward to continue following Stan's adventures with more Diary of a Dinosaur books!!
Dinosaurs who go to school? I love it - okay, i did get it for the kids. Great combination of fun little story and beautiful cover illustrations.
